Welcome to Amber's Diary

Amber's diary is the diary of a baby guinea-pig who came to live with me on the 27th March 2010 aged 3 months old.

What does Amber do?

Amber's life

8am - is given a variety of vegetables often including:
  • Green Bell Pepper (no seeds, stalks or leaves - these are poisonous)
  • Baby Corn
  • Carrots cut into slices
  • Romaine Lettuce (Iceberg lettuce is bad for guinea-pigs)
  • Cucumber cut into slices
Then I normally open her hutch door so she can have access to her 6ft run. Her hutch is attatched to her run and she is not allowed to free range round the garden because this can be dangerous to guinea-pigs because of nearby cats, dogs etc. She has lived at my house for about a week now and she has only gone out into the run by herself twice, she seems a little scared of it!

Then, if I'm at home I check on her again at about lunchtime, and sometimes I bring her some dandelions or grass that I pick on my way down the garden.

Then at about 5pm in the Winter months (about 7pm in the Summer months) I fill up her bowl with Johnsons Guinea-pig Food which is a mix food, and I give her timothy hay. All guinea-pigs need an unlimited supply of hay, but mine eat their hay really slowly so I only need to top it up once a day, and baby guinea-pigs need unlimited main food, either in pellet or mix form.
I also change Amber's water bottle every evening, then I shut her hutch door so she doesn't have access to her run at night.
So when I shut her hutch door, she can go to sleep:
